Frequently Asked Questions About Cosmetic Brow Tattooing in Norwich
If you’re considering cosmetic brow tattooing in Norwich, it’s important to understand the treatment process, healing timeline, suitability, and investment. Below are answers to frequently asked questions about machine hairstrokes, ombre brows, and combination brows.
What is cosmetic brow tattooing?
Cosmetic brow tattooing (also known as permanent makeup) is a semi-permanent treatment that enhances the shape, structure and definition of your natural brows using carefully implanted pigment.
I offer machine hairstrokes, ombre brows and combination brows, depending on your desired result and skin type.
Will my brows look natural?
Yes. My approach prioritises balance, proportion and realism. Machine hairstrokes mimic natural hair growth. Ombre brows create a soft, diffused makeup effect. Combination brows blend both techniques for texture and density.
I can tailor your treatment towards a fluffier brow if preferred, just as I can create harmony where you’re just looking to balance out patchiness. Either way, Results are tailored to your face, not trends.
How long will my brows last?
Brow treatments typically fade over a period of 12–24 months before requiring a colour refresh. Longevity depends on skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, skincare products and how closely aftercare guidance is followed. Oily skin types may experience slightly faster fading.
All cosmetic tattooing has the potential not to fade over time, including semi-permanent makeup, as the pigments used are the same.
Is the treatment painful?
Most clients describe the treatment as mildly uncomfortable rather than painful.
You may bring numbing cream to your appointment to use prior to your treatment. EMLA can be purchased over the counter from the pharmacy. Since lidocaine can cause allergic reactions in some individuals, please conduct a patch test at least 48 hours before your appointment. Your pharmacist can advise further.
How long does the appointment take?
Initial appointments typically take 2.5–3 hours, including consultation, mapping, pigment selection, and the treatment itself.
A touch-up session is advisable 6–8 weeks later and usually takes around 1.5–2 hours.
What is the healing process like?
Your brows will go through 3 stages
Days 1-3 : Brow shock – Your brows will be darker for the first few days. this is normal, as excess pigment sits in the dead layers of the surface of the skin, giving the appearance of a darker brow.
Days 4-14: Brow fade – As your skin heals, you’ll see your brows begin to disappear. This can be disconcerting but it’s part of the healing process.
Day 15 onwards: Your brows will be mostly healed at this stage, and will start to come back, revealing the healed results. You’ll be ready for a touch-up by week 6-8, as this gives your brows plenty of time to settle.
Do I need a touch-up?
Yes. A second appointment at 6–8 weeks is essential to refine shape, reinforce pigment retention and perfect the final result.
After this, most clients return annually for a colour refresh.
Who is not suitable for cosmetic brow tattooing?
You may not be suitable if you:
• Are breastfeeding
• Are undergoing chemotherapy
• Have certain skin conditions in the brow area
• Have uncontrolled diabetes
• Are using strong retinoids or certain acne medications
• Have previously had cosmetic tattooed brows & have excessive pigment build up.
A full consultation and medical questionnaire is completed before treatment.
Can you tattoo over previous brow work?
Possibly. This depends on:
• The depth and colour of existing pigment
• How saturated the area is
• Whether shape correction is possible
• If any scar tissue is present
In some cases, removal or lightening may be recommended before new work can be performed.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
Please avoid:
• Alcohol 24 hours before
• Caffeine on the day of treatment
• Retinol or active skincare around the brow area for 1–2 weeks
• Botox in the brow area within 2 weeks before or after treatment
Detailed preparation instructions will be sent before your appointment.
How do I choose between hairstrokes, ombre, or combination brows?
This depends on your skin type, natural hair density & colour, desired finish (soft & airy vs softly defined makeup look), & long-term maintenance preferences
I will advise you during consultation on the most appropriate technique for your skin and goals.
Is cosmetic tattooing the same as traditional tattooing?
Yes and no. Cosmetic tattooing uses different pigment formulations and techniques designed to fade gradually over time. The depth of implantation is different to most body tattooing applications. Some fine-line techniques are very similar (something I also specialise in).
The goal is softness and longevity without over saturation or implanting pigment too deeply.
